WHAT DOES BITSInPCs DO FOR YOU, THAT OTHERS CAN'T HELP YOU WITH!

To begin with: BitsInPCs believes that technology should SUPPORT people:
- Individuals should not have to become IT security experts to keep their computer free from viruses and other attacks!
- Private individuals should not have to take expensive training courses to be able to handle/use their own computer for what they bought it for!
Therefore, we help you install and use your computer in a way that ENABLES all security services and features that are built into Windows. This also makes the computer easier to use, as you don't have to worry about damaging the computer.

BitsInPC's idea is that the technology in Windows should serve people, not the other way around.

Those of you who use a Windows computer privately should be able to use your computer freely for everything you want: Entertainment, Social media, making money, administering your bills, insurance and other important tasks, as well as browsing the Internet, playing games etcetera.
All without you first have to be forced to learn “everything about security"!

Therefore BitsInPCs created an installation tutorial (GUIDE) that you may easily follow, row by row, and your computer will soon be installed exactly as Windows is DESIGNED to be installed and used.
(All by yourself without help, without extra fees, without extra programs, etc.)

TO UNDERSTAND FUNDAMENTAL COMPUTER SECURITY THERE ARE A FEW BASICS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
The security model in Windows is actually more similar than different from the security models of operating systems like: Linux or Unix.

HAVING THE POSSIBILITY OF SECURITY ON FILES AND FOLDERS COMBINED WITH USER-GROUPS IS ONE ABSOLUTE BASIC FUNCTION!
In all three of these operatingsystems the file and folder-security allows different user-goups to have same or different rights on files and folders.

This is actually a more complex thing, but BitsInPCs will keep this description simple, so here goes!

There has to exist one usergroup that contains ADMINISTRATORS-rights, so in Windows there is always a usergroup called: Administrators.
And every account that is put in the group Administrators (thus becomes member of the group) will end up having Administrative rights on that computer.

These user accounts will therefore have the right to change SYSTEMVIDE settings, settings that changes for all users as they are system wide Windows-settings. Any useraccount with administrators-rights may change something that ruins the basic function of the Windows-system (thus they may easily make mistakes that ruin how well Windows works).

In Windows, who has a REGISTRY that Controls settings and other highly important settings, the registry has similar "file and folder-security" for the same groups, and they work similar as the file and folder-security does.

Any user-account that is member of the Administrators-Group automatically gets the right to change SYSTEM-WIDE registry settings that affect every user-account on the computer. They may for example change the settings for Windows page-file, how big it should be and on what drive it would be placed on etc. Unfortunately in Windows the absolutely 1st user-account that is created will be member of the administrators-group and thus have administrators rights and permissions.

This is exactly the same in Linux and Unix, but in Linux the administrators account is called: ROOT!

In Linux and Unix-like computer operating systems, the root is the conventional name of the user who has all rights or permissions (to all files and programs).

Tasks like installing or removing software, configuring system settings, adjusting file permissions, and many other tasks usually require access to the root user account in order to perform. The root account can be accessed either by logging directly into the account, or by using the sudo command to temporarily access root and execute a command with administrators (ROOT) privileges. Although youare running this command as an ordinary user, the whoami command will show you that the effective user that is running the command is : ROOT.

There is no reason to log into the root user account if you have access to the sudo command and simply want to run a few commands as the root user. This is actually the recommended approach in Linux, as it is more secure than having users to log into the root account directly.

AND THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME IN HOW IT WORKS IN WINDOWS!

In Windows you use the "UAC" to temporarily run stuff with the rights and permissions of the Administrators Group! The main difference here is that in Linux you must manually call for sudo, while in Windows there are initiators that automatically activates your UAC-prompt!

If you for instance double-click on the setupfile for any program, this will initiate the popup of your computers UAC-prompt!

So by using UAC anyone can easily install any program with the highest privilege, create a new user account, assign permissions, and give different privileges to user-accounts, change systemwide settings, turn on or off the realtime-scanning of your antivirus program, add or remove exeptions to your antivirus program so certain malware will not be reported or disinfected etc.

And you no longer need to sign into the administrators-account if you have access to it's password!

If you double-click on a setupfile for a program, the UAC-prompt will activate and cover the entire screen.

It will ask for the password for an administrators account and if you type the correct password into the UAC-prompt that setup-file will shift to be run with the Administrators account and it's rights and it's permissions. NOTE! This will happen even if you are signed in with a standard useraccount that does not have any administrative rights or permissions it-self!

This, to always sign in with a standard-account, is actually the recommended approach even in Windows, as it is more secure than having users to log into the administrators-account directly. (Just like in Linux)

So! As you have learned! The security models in Windows, Linux and Unix are more similar than different!

The main differences are the names for the security functions and that Windows has a "settings-database" that is called the: REGISTRY that has similar security as the file and folder-security!

SO! WHY IS LINUX OFTEN CONSIDERED AS "MORE SECURE" THAN WINDOWS?
If anyone would always sign into Linux with the Linux-systems ROOT account that Linux computer would be just as insecure as a normal privately used Windows computer! Every vulnerability, script or malicious file that the Linux user would run will be run with the ROOT-accounts rights and permissions..

The malicious file would then be ALLOWED to change just about any security setting there is, since the root users rights and permissions are SYSTEM-WIDE! And if you add the fact that very few Linux-computers have any real antivirus-software running, there are nothing to alert the user that something malicious is happening!

In Corporate situations no one is allowed to sign in with the ROOT-account, every Linux-administrator are FORCED to sign into their personal user-account (that only has user-rights) and then utilize sudo whenever they really need the permissions of the ROOT-account.
This IS the reason as to why Linux is regarded safer than Windows,
since most people use Windows with an administrative account!

In Corporate situations, it works the same in Windows,  all users use a standard-account, and if any user needs to change a systemwide setting in their Windows-computer they use the UAC-prompt to allow *whatever it is* to be run with their local administrators accounts rights and permissions! Thus these corporate Windows-computers are at least equally secure as a linux PC is claimed to be! (Actually corporate Windows computers running in this way are more secure than most linux-pcs are since they always have a antivirus-software running that will alert the user if anything malicious is going on, plus that Windows computer will be automatically updated as soon as updates are avaliable)

In most privately owned and used Windows computers things are usually entirely different!
First of all, when you install a private Windows computer the Windows-setup will FORCE you to sign in with a Microsoft account!
(there is nothing wrong with signing in with a Microsoft-account at all, they are more secure and more usefull than local user-accounts)

The problem lays in the fact that the account that you are forced to sign in with the Microsoft-account always is the absolutely FIRST user-account that is created on the computer!
And since every computer needs an administraticve account, the first account ever created will be a member of the Administrators-Group..

Thus you will Always sign in with administrators-rights..

AND THIS IS WHAT RUINS THE SAFETY OF PRIVATELY OWNED WINDOWS-COMPUTERS! (BitsInPCS solves this for you!)
Everyone should be aware of the risks that arise when always logging in with an administrator account.

WHY? Because all the malware you encounter will run on your PC with your user rights. If you have administrator rights, then all the malware that affects your PC will also run with administrator rights.

If you have the rights to turn on or off the UAC-function, turn on or off the real time-scanning of your antivirus program, the right to add exeptions to your antivirus software, then every malware that may infect your PC will also have the rights to perform these tasks.

If you instead would be signed in with a standard account, no malware would be able to get access to perform any of the above tasks! And your PC will be at least as secure as a Linux PC is!

Ever since year 2000 there have been reports that continuously showed the same results: (Windows vulnerability reports)

- Using a Standard user-account does mitigate ca: 85% of all CRITICAL VULNERABILITIES IN WINDOWS

- Using a Standard user-account does mitigate just about all CRITICAL VULNERABILITIES IN MS OFFICE

NOTE! This even BEFORE the vulnerabilities where publicly known! (thus being "zero-day vulnerabilities)

So by logging into your PC with a standard account instead of an administrator account, will keep your PC will much safer than even the best antivirus program can safeguard your PC if you would continue to log in the 'Microsoft way' (with your user account as the only administrator account).

Vulnerabilities are the single most dangerous thing your PC may have, weather it's a Windows, Linux, Unix or Mac.

Antivirus programs may protect against exploits of vulnerabilities, unless a malware has already altered the antivirus programs settings or the vulnerability is not yet publicly known!

BitsInPCs goal is to help you and every other person with a Windows computer to be able to FIRST create a separate LOCAL Administrators account (just like ROOT-accounts are created in Linux), and then BitsInPCs helps you to create a PROPER standard-useraccount for you and every other user who might be using the computer! Everyone should get their own 100% private computer-account!
A privacy that BitsInPCs seems as obvious to create though the way the installation guide is built!

This way BitsInPCs will help you to get the security of a corporate like installation and it's hightend security in your own privately owned PC!
And since your Windows-computer will work just like a Linux PC does, you will also attain similar security-level as a properly used Linux-PC.

But unlike Linux, your UAC will popup automatically when anything tries to use administrative rights.. If you are responsible for this need of administrative rights (like you double-clicked on a setup-file) then all you need to to is to type the password to the computers administrators-account, and it will shift to run by the administrators account.

And unlike most Linux PCs, you will have an antivirus program that warns you when something malicious is about to happen.. (But since you no longer have administrative rights connected to your account, the malware will no longer be able to nest deep inside your operating system, nor will it be allowed to change any system-wide setting, nor create its own administrative account or to disable security functions etc..

Thus your windows-computer will be much, much SAFER to use than if you had installed your PC "the regular way" without any of these enhansements.

BitsInPCs GUIDE HELPS YOU TO GET A BETTER (STRONGER) SECURITY THAN A LINUX PC HAS!
Your computer will thus also achieve better, more long lasting high performance, as well as much higher stability. With much fewer freezes, much fewer blue screens, and much fewer sudden restarts. BitsInPCs installation-guide will also help you to set the correct privacy settings that controls the telemetry-data so no personal data will be sent out from your PC!
BitsInPCs also help you to minimize similar data-collection from the Edge-browser!
